Crisis Once Again struck the oil and Gas sector In Malaysia. 

PETRONAS to review all existing projects to cut costs

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas will review all existing projects for its upstream and downstream businesses, including those in the pipeline, in a bid to cut costs amid what is shaping out to be a prolonged period of much cheaper oil prices.

“We are going to review all the projects that we have. Each division will have to start looking at its portfolios to see what project makes sense because there are projects that don’t make sense at this price level,” Petronas senior vice-president for upstream Malaysia, Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib, told The Edge Financial Daily  at theInternational Petroleum Technology Conference yesterday.

Last month, president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas said Petronas was looking at cutting 15% to 20% of its RM60 billion capital expenditure (capex) for new projects next year, given the current backdrop of low oil prices.

Mohd Anuar said Petronas will have to start prioritising its projects moving forward and decide on those that are affordable and sensible.

With the current low oil prices, he said the challenge is not so much in the oil price, but rather the costs of doing business, which have escalated tremendously in recent years, affecting profitability.

“The revenue stream is going to be much lower, so we’ve got to think of how to take care of the costs.

“We have to be profitable at whatever price range. We are no different than any other company in the world,” Mohd Anuar said, adding that Petronas too is answerable to its shareholders and has an obligation to ensure good returns.

However, he did not want to reveal whether Petronas’ downstream sector would see the highest casualty in project cuts. Still, it should be noted that the biggest money maker for Petronas is its upstream division, which looks for oil and gas.

What is clear at this point in time, said Mohd Anuar, is that “all industry players will have to go back and look at their books”.

Earlier, Petronas vice-president for upstream international Sharbini Suhaili told reporters that the group is looking to divest its stakes in Mauritania and Cameroon as part of its international growth plan to upgrade its portfolio.

“We will continue to look at opportunities that have growth value. We will divest those that have no value,” he said at a briefing on the sidelines of the same conference.

However, Sharbini said Petronas will continue to look for suitable sites that will bring value to the group despite the ongoing unfavourable market conditions.

One such site is in Argentina, for which Petronas signed a US$550 million (RM1.92 billion) deal with Argentinia state-controlled company YPF SA on Wednesday to drill fields at the world’s fourth largest shale oil deposit in Patagonia’s Vaca Muerta. Under the arrangement, Petronas will invest US$475 million in an initial phase of 35 wells to be operated by YPF.

Sharbini said Petronas is optimistic about maintaining its production growth of 1% to 2% next year.

It is currently producing about 2.2 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) a day, while its international ventures portfolio produces 550,000 boe per day.

It's November again!!!!

Hi guys & girls,

I back with a blog again. So for my inactive blogging moments. It's not that I'm busy. I'm just getting lazy posting new stuff lately. And yeah, it's going to be a busy month since Christmas is around the corner again Yahoo!!!!!!. So what should I post for today's menu? I feelin' good......

I feeling good? Yea you can say that.

I'm in the mood of story telling. The misadventures of a Hero. I start to post such a storyline at my shoutout yesterday. Some did comment. That's a start I guess.

Round up For the day

What a wonderful day to relax and cool down your head. Had a morning breakfast at A1 coffeeshop at BDC. A friend of my also joins in the fray. Having mee kolo as potential breakfast food for the entire morning. Drinks : Teh c peng & teh peng. A little chit and chats and stuff, we off to road to see his housing in development. Off course it under construction. Under 50% complete. Structural work are all done, now proceed with the plastering, bricks & other architectural features to add on. Its reminds me of my good old days at my former company a year ago before I left to BDEWC. It reminds me of the smell of concrete, the rusted image of the reinforced steel bars in randomic sizes, Y10, Y12,Y20, all those sizes you can easily find in the market. Typical double storey House, & there is also single storeys as well. We talk and talk a lot about house design, the positon of Sofas, TV screen & stuff alike.

Talk about house design, not a lot of feature are change these days except for the concept of Architectural looks. There's a improvement in the term of external features such as cantilevered slab and beautiful artistic design, much influenced by western design. Houses these days are becoming more and more expensive due to several factors, mainly location, type of house, material prices that's keeping on rising and fall. Location for instance, the closer it to the town, the merrier the price. Location meaning easy access to Hospital, shopping complexes, other desire places that only took minutes to get there. Type of house meaning you can or want to have a large family so you want to have lots o room to accommodate your children, your family and the rest of the household. If you are afford to buy a big house i.e Bungalow, then my friend, you are one heck of a rich man, a businessman or offshore contractor or some big name in the business world.

Gosh, how times fly.

Every adults wants to settle their life as soon as possible. My friend already make his choice, how about all the adults out there? have you? I guess we better make it steadily and sit down think about it all over again. My life as a 28 year old does not stop me from thinking of choices that we have to make in the years ahead.

Well, that are all the stuff that i can think of right now.

Today I'm feeling a bit hopeless............Today's task a little bit nerve breaking.
My panel inclines at 20 degree port side. Damn slings you have failed me this time. Inconsistency...................Ain't that true enough?

Eye witnessing the lifting of the panel kinda bores you out. Watching 190t Crane carrying a 16t deck Panel for the whole 45 minutes. Finish loading to Blasting & Painting Chamber, can't wait to ignite car engine and leave the dull yard & off we go to the office. By the time I'm reaching the damn place..it's almost 6.35 pm. Everybody's bugged out as usual leaving the Lonely drafts person Fay and my colleague in arms Clarence, still Stadpro2007-ing his Panel as well.

Also of today in the office everyone's busy with their chores........bla bla this bla bla that, any some other colleague of my rattles about secret & stuff....girl's stuff, who could apprehend such a situation.....It's norm for everybody I guess. My eyes glued to the 24" Hp monitor everyday solving, thinking , pondering...(ok... that's a bit off), spacing out and numb......Numb..... I like that word. Makes you wonder how vast is human imagination can be reached with hands stretches out to the unknown.

Oh Great.just great.another 24 hours the Loud-out. What to do, think damn it...what do expect to do you when you atuck in a very tight condition such as this. Ok I should listed do a " what to do list".

I Feel pathetic...........

Raya on the third..........What a scumptious day.........

Today I 'ngabang'ed six of my Brooke friend's houses. Started at 1200 Hours and ended approximately 2000 Hours. Lots of dishes & glasses, fruits, rendangs (not to mentioned, variety of them), Mee Jawa, Nasi Goreng, Manok Goreng, Curry, Soup, Laksa Penang (1st time 4 me), and not forgetting Kek Lapis Sarawak, local Cake only found in East Malaysia. Stomach got to be expanded 110% to contained all the consumed foods.............Burp..............I'm full & Stuffed........

Got photo session in every each of the house visited. Will post it once i got the copies of it.....

For the time being......let thhe stomach do its business..........big investment tomorrow hehehehehe...............
